Program Philosophy & Overview

The B.Sc. Nursing degree is a four-year, eight-semester program designed to prepare students as qualified registered nurses for diverse healthcare settings. The curriculum is competency-based, integrating mastery and self-directed learning to develop critical thinking, clinical skills, and professional values.

Program Philosophy The INC believes that health is a fundamental right. Nursing utilizes knowledge from arts and sciences to provide holistic care. The program prepares graduates to provide promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative care.
Primary Aims To produce knowledgeable, competent nurses with critical thinking skills. Graduates are prepared for professional roles, empowered to make independent decisions, and conduct evidence-based practice across various clinical environments.
Core Competencies Graduates will be proficient in ten core areas, including Patient-Centered Care, Professionalism, Leadership, Communication, Teamwork, Safety, Quality Improvement, and Evidence-Based Practice.

INC Guidelines for Establishment

The Indian Nursing Council sets forth detailed guidelines for establishing a B.Sc. Nursing college. This includes requirements for a 100-bedded parent hospital, obtaining an Essentiality Certificate from the State Government, and strict mandates on physical facilities (teaching/hostel blocks) and staffing patterns to ensure an elite standard of education.

Course Structure (8 Semesters)

The B.Sc. Nursing program combines foundational, core, and elective courses. The total program encompasses over 6,600 hours of theory, laboratory, and clinical practice.

Mandatory & Elective Modules

The curriculum includes mandatory modules like First Aid, Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), and Skilled Birth Attendant (SBA). Students must also complete four elective modules from topics such as Palliative Care, Disaster Management, and Stress Management.

Examination Scheme

Assessment is conducted through a combination of internal assessments and end-semester university examinations. The minimum pass mark for nursing courses is 50% (C Grade).

First & Second Semester Exams Exams cover Applied Anatomy & Physiology, Nursing Foundations, and Applied Nutrition. Internal marks from the first semester are combined with the second for assessment.
Third & Fourth Semester Exams Subjects include Adult Health Nursing, Pharmacology, and Pathology. The university exam for combined subjects is held at the end of the fourth semester.
Fifth & Sixth Semester Exams Covers major clinical subjects including Child Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, and the first parts of Community Health and Midwifery Nursing.
Seventh & Eighth Semester Exams Final university theory exams cover Community Health Nursing II and Midwifery II. The eighth semester concludes with a final clinical competency assessment.

Key Examination Regulations

  • A candidate must pass in theory and practical exams separately for each paper.
  • All previous examinations must be cleared before appearing for the fifth-semester examination, and again before the seventh semester.
  • The maximum period to complete the course successfully is 8 years.
  • Practical examinations are conducted jointly by one internal and one external examiner.

Admission Guidelines

Educational Qualification Passed 12th Standard (10+2) with a minimum of 45% marks in core/elective subjects (Science preferable) and passed English individually. Minimum mark for SC/ST/OBC is 40%.
Admission Process & Quotas Admission is typically conducted through an entrance examination by the University or State Govt. Reservation policies apply for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates as per regulations.
Age & Fitness Minimum 17 years on Dec 31st of the admission year. The maximum age limit is 35 years. All candidates must be certified as medically fit to enroll.

Grading System

The university utilizes a 10-point grading system, where a 'C' Grade (50%) is the minimum required passing grade for core nursing courses.
