Program Philosophy & Aims

The Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery is geared to meet the health needs of individuals, families, and the community. It is built on the belief that health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being.

Aims of the Program

  • Prepare nurses with competencies for first-level positions in all healthcare settings.
  • Develop an ability to cooperate and coordinate with members of the health team.

  • Serve as a base for further professional education and specialization.
  • Keep pace with the latest professional and technological developments.

Core Objectives

Upon completion, the nurse will be able to demonstrate competency in providing healthcare using the nursing process, apply knowledge from humanities and sciences, function effectively in a team, mobilize community resources, and demonstrate interest in continuing education.

Course Structure (3 Years)

The curriculum is divided into theoretical instruction and practical clinical experience to ensure comprehensive learning across three years.

Part II (Integrated Internship)
Includes theory on Nursing Education, Research, Professional Trends, and Nursing Administration, alongside intensive clinical practice in all major areas.

Scheme of Examination

Assessment includes internal assessments by the school and final examinations conducted by the State Nursing Council/Board. The minimum pass mark is 50% for each theory and practical paper separately.

Key Examination Guidelines

  • A candidate can take any number of attempts within a maximum period of 6 years.
  • All previous papers must be cleared before appearing in the final year examination.
  • If a candidate fails in either theory or practical, they must re-appear for both papers.
  • Practical exams are conducted jointly by one internal and one external examiner in the respective clinical areas.

Admission Guidelines

Ensure you meet the academic and regulatory requirements set forth by the Indian Nursing Council before applying.

Minimum Education 10+2 with English, having obtained a minimum of 40% marks. Candidates from State Open School and NIOS are also eligible. Science stream is preferable.
Alternate Qualification 10+2 with English having 40% marks in Vocational ANM course or Vocational Stream-Health Care Science. Registered ANMs are also eligible.
Age & Fitness Minimum 17 years as of December 31st of the admission year. The upper age limit is 35 years. All candidates must be medically fit.

Institutional Compliance

The Indian Nursing Council mandates specific requirements for establishing a School of Nursing, including a separate teaching block, a 100-bedded parent hospital, and adequate hostel facilities. Surya Nursing Educational College strictly adheres to these guidelines to ensure a high-quality learning environment with sufficient clinical exposure for all students.
